Medication Overuse Headache and Myofascial Pain: Frequent Un-der-Diagnosed Conditions Related to Chronic Headache Patients. A Review of The Literature and Clinical Report

Abstract

Primary headaches become chronic when contributing factors are under-diagnosed, as a medication overuse or the presence of Myofascial Pain. This case report illustrates a 40 years old male patient complaining about headaches and facial pain for 30 years. After an accurate examination, Medication overuse headache (MOH), Myofascial Pain (MFP), Local Mialgia, and joint disorders were diagnosed, followed by the establishment of a conservative treatment plan. The mechanisms and pathophysiology of MOH, as well as its possible relationship with MFP, were discussed. With basis in the case report and literature, it was concluded that chronic headache patients must be evaluated in an attempt to diagnose MOH and MFP, since both are common conditions found in these individuals. In addition, their etiologies are multifactorial and the treament plan should include the use of different conservative treatment modalities
